Do you and your friends speak in movie quotes? Do you trade Spongebob memes back and forth with your loved ones? Do you have to rely on the ”Are You Still Watching?” message to let you know it’s time to bathe and stop procrastinating? If you answered yes to any (or all) of these questions, come hang out with us every other week! Media can play a huge role in shaping who we are. Sometimes it makes us idolize Jeff Goldblum as a sex symbol. Sometimes a lack of representation makes you feel invisible. As hosts, siblings Carie and Ross will analyze this phenomenon by breaking down a favorite movie or television show and how the sights, sounds, and messages of media have followed our generation throughout our lives. So pour your favorite beverage, relax, and explore how our shared experiences with movies and television messed us up as a generation. There will be laughter, there will be sadness, and THERE WILL BE discussions about homosexual subtext in children’s animation. Theme Song by Tune Tank: https://tunetank.com/tracks/5611-vacation

Freedom Writers: Deconstructing White Savior Movies Pt.2
Monday Jun 29, 2020
Monday Jun 29, 2020
On this week's episode, the siblings break down the white savior movie, Freedom Writers. Ross goes through the roof over Patrick Dempsey's character, and Carie points the finger at the institutions who did not get dragged in this movie. Also, there's lots of white people acting really white.

The Help: Deconstructing White Savior Movies Pt. 1
Monday Jun 22, 2020
Monday Jun 22, 2020
We know this is a long one, folx, but frankly, there are too many people watching The Help (2011) right now, and we did not hold back. This week, the siblings attempt to have a productive conversation about why White Savior Movies can give audiences false impressions about racial reconciliation and why these narratives are built for White Comfort.

The Birdcage or: How I Learned Nathan Lane is an Onion
Monday Jun 15, 2020
Monday Jun 15, 2020
This week, Carie and Ross break down one of Ross's long-time favorites, The Birdcage (1996). We have Robin Williams in a mustache TWO WEEKS IN A ROW. Nathan Lane is incomporable as always, and CHRISTINE BARANSKI IS BACK! Carie does a lot of squeaking/slash screaming in this one. General content warning for homophobia, racism and general insufferable white-man fatigue.

On this week's Kicking & Streaming, the siblings break down their favorite queer roadtrip movie, To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar! Ross can't get over how gorgeous Patrick Swayze is and Carie gets loud about (well, everything) how the movie mocks racism and homophobia.

RENT or: How I Learned to Live in the Moment
Monday Jun 01, 2020
Monday Jun 01, 2020
***PRE ROLL ANNOUNCEMENT: Hey all you little onions out there, Carie here from the editing bay. I know you’re normally here for laughs, but I need thirty seconds of your time before we get started. We recorded this episode a couple weeks ago and I wanted to take a moment to say that we have been following the coverage of the global protests and seeing for ourselves how activists and allies are coming together to demand justice for the death of George Floyd and the countless other victims of police brutality. It is not our place to speak for anyone, so rather than doing so, please take a look at the show notes for lists of podcasts hosted and/or produced by black creators, and resources for how you can contribute positively to the BlackLivesMatter movement. You can find articles on how you can educate yourself on systematic racism and become a better ally. Remember, no lives matter until black lives matter. Thank you and on with the show.
To mark the beginning of Gay Pride month, please join us for a special extended episode on the film adaptation of RENT (2005), Johnathan Larson's rock opera about artists and intellectuals living in New York City in the late 1980's, battling addiction, homelessness, and the then-new epidemic of HIV/AIDS that was plaguing America.
